Post suggestions, tips, hate and love for The Running Board here. Obviously it's only in it's early stages at the moment, but some constructive criticism would still be nice, nonetheless.

Definitely needs an edgier layout, but that's a given.

Other than that, my only concern is too many sub-forums. Not a big deal, it'd just be lame to see multiple forums that have like 2 or 3 posts. But I guess time will tell if it'll work or not.

I mean uh... we definitely need a quick reply (bottom of page text box) function on here.

Based on my earlier post attempts, it looks like every single post will have to be verified by a moderator before it is posted (?!) That just seems wrong. Also, I think our avatars should be a bit bigger?

I'm totally new to forums so this is all very much a trial and error process. I definitely do not want posts to have to be approved by a moderator, so I will fix up the permissions tomorrow morning when I get home.

As for too many subforums, we'll see how that goes when this goes live. If there's enough discussion being generated within the subforums then I'll keep them and visa versa.

The look of the forum first and foremost needs to be clean, simple and have valid code. So far this has all of these factors, but is decidely un-Dillinger. Crack Hitler, you said you knew someone in graphic design that could help out? That would be awesome, but I wouldn't be able to pay them. I don't make any money off SLW or TRB and nor do I intend to.

Please post all your concerns here, like avatar sizes. I can change all these things straight away and will most likely change anything as long as you request it. What avatar size limit would you like (pixel dimensions and file size)? Quick reply? I'll try to see if I can get that running for sure.

Next week I'll invite a small run of people to test the forum, including stuff like permissions. That week will end in tweaks based on people's criticisms etc. The week after the forum will go live to the general public and at that point all admins and mods will be assigned.

One small issue. Once again, not a huge deal, just kind of annoying.

The "Stay logged in" feature doesn't seem to work. I have to log in every time I visit the boards.

Also, a suggestion. "Politics" seems too narrow for its own subforum. I'd broaden it up to something like "Real World Discussion" which would cover politics, religion, social issues, things like that.

Thanks for that Tyler. I'll change the name of that thread tomorrow morning. I'll also work on getting the login stuff fixed (it doesn't seem to work for me). According to some of the people over at SMN, spamming might be a big problem, so I'm looking for a work around. Also, quick reply will be coming soon. Any other requests?

OK, so for all of the people testing the board please keep at it with suggestions!

So far I'm looking at:

1. Improved spam protection

2. The addition of quick replies

3. Flexibility with avatar size

4. Assigning mods to different sections of the forum

5. Graphic design (which may be a little while)

Anything else?

I think that covers the important stuff. I'd put protection from spambots at the bottom until it actually becomes a problem, though, and focus on the other stuff more for now.

Looking good to me, bigger avatar size would be good, maybe a different colour scheme in the short term. Also I know no one told me to join but I searched www.spreadinglikewings.com/forum so give me a tiny bit of credit for that

Accept Instruction's membership made me think- we could use an Introduction thread somewhere.

Adding a button for quoting someone would be nice.

Also, can we imbed in here? Photos, videos, or otherwise. If not, we should be able to.

I would second a different color scheme if I didn't already.

I think there are too many subforums. Another matter of less importance is the fact that I am not accustomed to avatars being on the right.

Having an introductions thread would be swell. Something along the lines of "hi i are a n00b" would suffice.

You should be able to embed images. Can everyone else do that? As for video, definitely no flash. I'm adamant about that, which is why I use ClickToFlash.
